How it works

From one payment to a live set

SetList runs inside Second Life. Owners pay and manage the club, DJs stream, and listeners tune in. Here is what each of them does.

If you own a club

One payment sets everything up. You keep it running from the owner dashboard.

  1. Pay at a SetList Terminal

Pay L$400 for 1 week, L$1,600 for 4 weeks or L$4,800 for 12 weeks. See pricing for what is included.

  2. Open your dashboard

Your link arrives by IM. It is a one-time link, so there is no password to set up.

If a link expires, touch the SetList board or terminal in-world for a new one.

  3. Collect your venue kit

The SetList Courier delivers the board, the tip jar and the guides in-world.

The owner setup guide in Help walks you through it.

  4. Set up your club

    • Upload the music AutoDJ plays when no DJ is live. You have about 5 GB of storage.
    • Build the lineup in SLT.
    • Add your DJs. Each one gets a streaming login.
    • Choose whether DJs can only connect during their scheduled sets.
    • Set the tip split between the DJ on deck and the venue.
  5. Keep it running

SetList sends payment reminders 3 days and 1 day before expiry. After expiry there is a 3-day grace period. Then the stream pauses and your data is kept for 30 days. The pricing page has the details.

If you DJ

You stream with the software you already use. The board and the alerts do the rest.

  1. Get your login

Each DJ has a streaming login of their own. Touch the SetList board in-world and choose DJ login to get to yours.

  2. Set up your software

BUTT, Mixxx, Traktor and VirtualDJ are supported. Enter your streaming login in the one you use.

  3. Check your set time

Your sets are in the lineup, in SLT.

The owner can limit DJs to connecting during their scheduled sets. If that is on, you can only connect during yours.

  4. Go live

Connect and start playing. The board shows you as on air and shows what is playing. Avatars who subscribed to alerts get an IM that you are live.

  5. Collect tips

Tips go into the Tip Jar. Each tip is split between the DJ on deck and the venue, using the percentage the owner set. When you stop, AutoDJ plays the club’s music until the next DJ goes live.

If you listen

Tune in, see what is on, and opt in to alerts if you want to be told when a DJ goes live.

  1. Tune in

Every club has its own stream. It is a 192 kbps MP3 stream and takes up to 100 listeners.

  2. See what is on

The board shows who is on air, what is playing and the next set. The same information appears on a live web display and in the board’s hover text.

  3. Touch the board

The touch menu has the lineup, song requests, DJ login and alerts.

  4. Get an IM when a DJ goes live

Alerts are opt-in and there are no bots. Clubs can send Discord alerts too.

  5. Tip the DJ

Tips go into the Tip Jar and are split between the DJ on deck and the venue.

Music licensing

Music licensing for what a venue plays is the venue’s responsibility. The terms explain more.
